1999 Burmester Colheita (bottled 2008)

Post by Rubby »

Bottled in 2008.

• decant +0:
Dark red-brown leather colour. Lovely nose of leather, oak, some caramel, orangepeel, coffee and even some cherries left. Palette of caramel, raisins, coffee, a hint of prune, and again even some cherries which give this Colheita a surprising youthfullness.
Long aftertaste. Alcohol nicely integrated.

• decant +18:
Nose is turning more towards the caramel and orangepeel, while the leather and oak are taking a step back. Palette is unchanged. Nice.

• decant + 48:
Things have become a bit more alcoholic. Other than that this port is holding up nicely. I can even detect some raspberry on the palette that wasn't there before! Aftertaste seems to have shortened somewhat. No tannins.

A really nice youthfull Colheita, with all the qualities of a ten year old but with a tiny amount of fresh fruit still peeking through.
This one's drinking really nice right now.
