1987 Quinta do Noval Silval

Post by Rubby »

decant +1:
Reasonable amount of fine sediment.
Colour ruby red with strawberry rim. Lovely nose of cherries, elderberry, plum and a hint of marzipan. Palette of cherries, prune, strawberry and blueberry. A lovely creamy mellow texture with the alcohol nicely integrated.
Acceptable long aftertaste with gooseberry and orange added. Tiny amount of tannins.
decant +2:
Nose is gaining in fruity strength. Raisin is added and there's also something rosey.
decant +3:
Some milkchocolate is added to the palette.

decant +24:
After a night in the fridge, this Port seems to have mellowed out even more. The nose has somewhat weakened. The palette is still holding up though, with even a tiny amount of mint added and the milkchocolate becomming more prominent. Still fairly fruity.

Drink now, don't wait much longer. It might be a few years past it's prime, but drinking very nicely and at the moment merely mellowing out. I enjoyed this one.

Glad to see this one turned out better than the 1984. Sounds lovely from your description.
