Tasted November 2004:
We still owed StevieCage a birthday gift (a nice copy of James Sucklings book Vintage Port), and since his birthday was already three weeks ago, we thought we'd better pour him some port as well...

Decanted approximately one hour before drinking, some fine sediment was poured with it, because I forgot to stand the bottle up in time. Clearly showing some age, with the color going to brown on the rim. Not very concentrated. The alcohol is very apparent on the nose at first. Later, it blows off somewhat. Very rustic, tobacco, dried grass/leaves, resin and clear green note (celery). At first the taste is oddly acidic, but that becomes less apparent after a few sips. Strawberries, cherries, milk chocolate, tobacco, and some dried notes. Light bodied, very supple port, still some grip left, but not a whole lot. Nice finish with cocoa and dried cherries. Not a stunner, but a very nice monday evening drinker. The decanter was finished in no time. 85 points.
