Decanter #3: this Smith Woodhouse as dark as the Graham and Warre. The nose closed all evening, but a lovely rounded smooth full-bodied mouthfeel that I was quite sure was Dow. Oh, how wrong I was. The lesser name of SW shone bright.

Smith Woodhouse 1980 from bottle
Dark red colour with the centre of the glass just being transparent. Strange nose, a little tight but a lovely minty tone. Thick and sweet in the mouth, with a good tannic structure inside a ripe bramble fruit essence with an interesting pine sap note. Very sweet and with waves of fruit coming through in the mid-palate. Very good length with many phases before it finally fades away. 6/6 or 90/100.[/i]

My note:

Vastly better than the SW drawn from two halves, dark, nicely mature and satisfying. In the evening's rankings, this gained my third place.
