3½ hours after decanting this was a light red in colour, fading a little on the rim with a cedar wood and redcurrant jelly nose. It fills the mouth with a lovely initial sweetness but has a harsh acidity that jars against the sweetness; although the acidity fades after a while in the mouth and the fruit is allowed to come through once more, but bringing too much green peppercorns for my liking. The aftertaste is initially huge, with lips and cheeks tingling, but fades quite quickly. 7/7 or 90/100.

8 hours after decanting this was showing a little alcohol on the nose but the sweetness and body was much improved. The aftertaste was longer than earlier and the extra air contact had certainly improved this wine. 91/100. Drunk 9 February 2008.

Croft 1955: palest of ≥1945s. Nosing of vegetal oxidised sourness. Hot, thin, overt sugar, but good length. The acidity / oxidised sourness was very strong in the mid-palate.

Later the sourness faded improving the score to 5/4: drink Cr55 slowly.
