1997 Martinez Quinta da Eira Velha: slightly cloudy, slightly orange, red. Lightly nose of currants, though AJRH found liquorice. To taste overt heat, medium length at best, good acid, soft, pleasant, unremarkable. We agreed: “tastes like boring port†; “basic quaffing port†. 3/2.

Later the acid had grown and the overall effect was thinner.

Hmm, this was another from that shopping excursion, wasn't it? Shame it turned out mediocre (as I've two bottles of the same).

Sushi,

I'll be interested to hear if you like your bottles better than JDAW liked his. I have enjoyed this particular VP in the past. Not a killer Port by any stretch of the imagination, but certainly not bad for the money.

JDAW shows the back label and that importer is really the parent company of Chat. Ste. Michelle and Columbia Crest, among a few other signficant wine holdings. Although a well guarded "secret" for some reason, the ultimate owner of all, is US Tobacco. Stimson Lane is a few minutes from where I live.

Please, RAH and JES alike, post another TN — or a link

After the remnants had spent a few days in the fridge it still tasted of boring harmless port. Perfectly acceptable after a day in the pub.

Please, RAH and JES alike, post another TN (or a link to same).
