1985 Graham: Lots of sediment when decanted at 11am. A tiny D+0 sample resulted from priming the decanter: brick red, mid translucency. Spirity nose, a few minutes later the spirit being replaced with black fruit. The one small sip very very hot. It should be better this evening.

Graham 1985: color a bit lighter than the 83. Comparing it to the 83 was like night and day - the 85 had a very powerful candied citrus, slightly medicinal nose, Dave noted mead, which I agree with. To me it seemed to more closely resemble the Nacional 85 than the Graham 83, both had very unusual scents and flavors. Good flavor, but I found it a bit too cloying for me and I definitely preferred the 83.

Graham 1985: Dark red. Nosing of molasses. In particular I was reminded of the molasses present in a 40-year-old Springbank that had been aged in an old Bourbon cask. (Astonishingly, some people said that this description was not helpful.) To taste, sweet dark fruit, a little light alcohol, pepper, and, rightly identified by DC, honey or mead. Lovely.

WOTN for drinking now.

While I agree with other's suggestions that this ruby colored Graham's 1985 contains honey and molasses on the nose, I also detect chocolate and grains -- very complex before even a sip. It's dark fruity interior, full of chocolate and a hint of pears, is somewhat "idiosyncratic," but it is beautifully structured with fruit and can be left for another five years or more. (92, keep)
