1815 Ferreira

Suspected to be a vintage port, with an IVP sello on it, number AM505088. Deeper in colour than the Royal Oporto 1815 drunk in the same flight. Dark honey colour centre with a green rim and a lot of sediment in the bottle. A nose that smelt distinctly of rosemary and antiseptic. Initial impact in the mouth was of rosemary with plenty of acidity to give structure and some sloe-like bitterness and then rosemary once again dominating the latter parts of the mid-palate. Enormous length from the wine, which was still dominated by the rosemary but with some over-ripe tangerine or mandarin also in there. The years had not been kind to this particular bottle and while it was an experience and privilege to taste it, it was not a great wine to drink. 80/100. 1 hour of decanting on 1 July 2007.
