1970 Warre's Vintage Port

Post by RonnieRoots »

One of three vintage ports that were sold by the glass in Gordon Ramsay's Verre Restaurant in Dubai. The restaurant manager was so kind to open a fresh bottle for us. Decanted at the beginning of dinner and enjoyed before dessert.

Initially fiercely hot and showing little else than a big structure. More a showcase of the powerful 1970 vintage than of Warre. We gave it plenty time in the glass to evolve and that helped a lot. Beautiful dark, spicy nose. Elegant mouthfeel, with currant and other (semi) dried fruit, some leather, and a beautiful long finish with star aniseed, chocolate and sweet plums. Velvety tannins. It never lost all of its heat, but that could probably be solved with some more time in the decanter. A beauty. 93 points.
