1983 Ferreira Quinta do Seixo: browner than the ’78, and to smell more fruit than both its older siblings. Somebody said ‟some tawny characteristics”. To taste dominated by an odd bitterness, which I found thoroughly off-putting. Not liked by me.

I had tasted the 1983 Ferreira Quinta do Seixo a few weeks earlier, and had the same unpleasantness, so this wasn’t obviously a bottle-specific problem. Not liked.

Milky nose backed by red berries and commented of a tawny nose which I found too.

I felt it was a stronger version of the 77 on the mouth.

reddish spirity berry, burnt sugar with an added spiciness and very apparent tannins.

I liked this as the night went on. 88.

Those must've been bad bottles as everyone really enjoyed the '83 the most at our Ferreira vertical.

I must side with jdaw1 and g-man here. When I had this with jdaw1 it was a decent, albeit simple Port with a short finish. I gave it 87-88 points and that was a bottle direct from the Ferreira cellar so no storage issue problem at all.

If memory serves my right, we thought 1970 and 1983 were the top two.

Maybe Sean or Fred will chime in?
