1955 Croft vintage port

This bottle had the dubious distinction of being the most ullaged in my cellar, the only bottle to classify as a 'BLS' - below low shoulder.
It was also the subject of a re-corking experiment a couple of years ago.
The two year old cork had been impregnated to a depth of less than 1mm, with only the faintest shadow of wine colouration.
After decanting the dregs when sipped seemed very oxidised, but the wine in the decanter was bright and had good colour - good enough to pass as a '70.
A few hours later it was nicely composed, and has remained so for two days since, the decanter being kept cool.
On the nose the wine seems quite oxidised and tertiary, but on the palate it is much better, with reasonable length and minimal fire. A good show from an obviously compromised bottle, I shall actively seek a modest supply of sound specimens, when the opportunity presents.
It does not seem appropriate to volunteer a score for such an ullaged bottle, other than to note that it was much better than feared!
