2000 Poças LBV: $19+tax from Crossroads Wines & Liquors.

Before going further with this tasting note I should get in my denials early. The boss sent me shopping for some cooking wines, including a white port (Osborne), a ‟ruby” (this 2000 Poças LBV), a Madeira (I am too embarrassed) and a cognac (I forget). But having bought a cooking ruby, I ought to take one for the team.

Opaque, dark red with purple-blue. The colour is a little less black than a Fonseca 1985, and still very youthful. Light nose of red fruit light but acceptable. The taste would be really quite good if the roughness were taken away. It isn’t very rough, but the roughness is very present from initial attack to the end. Not really my thing, but in an emergency, functional.

The newly-arrived brother-in-law reports ‟tastes good to me”. The perils of living in China for two years, I suppose.
