1985 Fonseca vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep red, although with a transparent centre. A restrained nose shows sweet bramble fruit. Depite its appearance of moving to maturity, this is very young in the mouth, full of tannins but with plenty of redcurrant fruit to balance the tannin when the wine reaches that point of full integration. Lots of mid-palate complexity. The aftertaste is starting to show some maturity, is quite long lasting but is elegant rather than big. Ready to drink if you like your port on the young side, but likely to reward more patience. 91/100. Tasted 27/11/08.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
