Bottled in 1972 in rather quaint dumpy bottles that can only be stored upright. Top of bottle is coated with an odd brittle red lacquer (not wax) that is cracking and peeling off. Driven cork, which proved to be tapered when removed - all very unconventional!
Aside from the fact that these long aged tawniess tend to put me into sugar overload, this was a faultlessly smooth dark wine that gave the impression of being indestructible - I wonder if a vintage port from that year would have retained so much colour..?
