1970 Cockburn

This was a 'London Bus' wine for me - after several attempts to secure a modest stash without success, a clutch of auction bids all came home at once..

Now well stocked, it seemed a good wine to kick off the new year with.

Decanted two days ago. A very clean decant, despite the bottle having been stood up for less than an hour, and at first sip it proved very approachable.

Later that day it showed a tad raw and immature, but still a good quaff. The immaturity element had faded a day later, and is no issue now at D + 48.

The nose is very typical of the vintage, but very hard to describe, being both modest and assertive - on the palate it also presents very well, no glitzy star turn, but a very loyal soldier..

A perfect wine to show to the uninitiated - this is what you call good port...

Score 9-9
