1997 Quinta do Vesuvio

D+1 Hour
Inky black. Raw blackcurrant on the nose. Thick and chewy mouthfeel. Strawberry and cherry dominate the fruit tastes. Tons of tannin and a long spicy and warming finish. Delicious.

My senses are still slightly off with the remnants of man-flu so it is unfair to score.

More later...

Perhaps a young port, tasting of blackcurrant juice, doesn't count as alcohol.

Correct 88)

I opened this for purely scientific reasons, not for my own pleasure. The question I am trying to answer is:

Does Vesuvio 1997 taste the same as Robinson's "No Added Sugar" Apple & Blackcurrant Squash?

Preliminary findings suggest that the answer is no but more experimentation is required in order to validate this.

On official TPF time today is the 48th of December. Saturday, I believe. On which day I am drinking a dry red: Quinta do Crasto 2006 Reserva Old Vines.

How do you like it? I picked up 6 bottles of it when WinesTilSoldOut.com had it on sale, mostly because I'd heard so many people on various Port forums talking about how good it is.

I'm not a wine drinker myself, but I like to have some good wines around to serve to guests.

So will this thread show up on the new-style TN Index as one where there has been an interesting discussion about the wine?

Yes; how many other TNs give a comparison to Robinson's "No Added Sugar" Apple & Blackcurrant Squash?

D+7 days (in the fridge)
Blackcurrant jam and molases nose. Thick and chewy mouthfeel. Silky smooth with a very long dry finish. Fabulous juice.
