Dark red. My initial thought on putting my nose over this was "cola cubes" - I then detected what seemed to be a little VA. A thick entry quickly faded into a thin and quite bitter finish.

I voted this as my "Worst of the Night"

Paler in colour than the 1978 shown alongside. Smelling oddly of stale coffee grindings. Simple and bland on the tongue; dry and showing little fruit. A lot of work in the mouth brings out some sweet redcurrants. The aftertaste lives up to the rest of the experience. Not a wine to seek out, although not offensive. 82/100. Drunk 24 March 2003.

Or maybe not a good bottle? I don't believe I ever had this port, but the 1982 Terra Feita was excellent.

This is the only bottle of 1982 Vargellas that I have tried, so it is entirely possible that it was a poor bottle. If I get the chance to try another, I will do so.

A rather feeble wne compared to the rest, a little bit weak, dry and fiery.

My least favoured wine of the night, but not by a mile.

A wine I neither own, nor will seek to acquire.
