1963 Martinez

Having recently secured a case of these for Alex, I thought I'd pop one of my own bottles.

English bottled and unlabelled, with an embossed yellow foil capsule. On removing the foil, I was a little surprised to find that the bottle had also been waxed.

Did not decant very cleanly, with tiny bits of fluffy sediment appearing soon after I started pouring.

First sip (the dregs) - terribly pale, very little bottle stink, slightly watery, but no fire.

D + 2hrs - better than I feared, and the wine has found some colour and fruitiness on the nose; but also a little fire. It is still a bit watery though..

..see how it evolves

D + 5 hours much better, than at D + 8 hours perfectly composed.

Something told me it wasn't going to keep, and sure enough at D + 13 hours, a late (or early.. ) glass showed it turning sharp.

This is looking and behaving like a really old wine that should have been drunk a decade or more ago, but still very nice if caught at the right moment.

Score 6-4
