2000 Graham's Crusted Port

Title convention says that we stick the bottling year in for Crusted, so that's what we've got.

Opened for the virtual off-line that seemed to end before I joined in - I always end up missing the party.

Dark as one would expect from Graham. Herbal nose but in the mouth it moves away from the Graham's norm. Not as teeth-achingly sweet as many but sweet enough. No big cherry hit but lots of herbs and very strong aniseed flavours which linger for ages.

Probably better tomorrow, ermmm... later today.

Got slightly distracted yesterday by lots of beer and a blonde police officer, so revisited tonight.

Nose is still herbal, still no cherries, still lots of aniseed, still quite nice.

Now tasting with Droste chocolates. These are Dutch chocolate counters perfect for playing strip chocolate draughts with as each type is different. Currently consuming Extra Dark and Milk / White, which are distinctly different. Sadly, nobody to play draughts with, not even a copper (and I don't mean Conky or Andy V).

The dark chocolate is very rich and bittersweet and sadly kills anything that this Port has to offer, just too strong.

The lighter one gives a very different perspective. It counteracts the sweetness and kills the aniseed. This leaves the Port tasting fresh, almost cleansing, the herbal notes still strong but no bitterness. Works well - must try again with other Ports.

Errmmm... may need another trip to Amsterdam.
