1983 Dow

Although this is a wine quite frequently tasted, it seemed to have escaped my attention, in recent years, at least. This the first bottle from a case.

Decanted 24hrs ago, modest amount of fine sediment

At first sip, the nose told me it was Dow - I could have guessed it blind before it passed my lips.

At D + 4 hours it seemed a little hot, lacking composure, and not really mature. 'Unknit' was a word that came to mind. Would it come together given a little more time?

Now at D + 24 it is no better, and seems very harsh - a disappointing encounter. Looking at other notes makes me wonder if this is a poor bottle.

The decanter has been in my office - it's not a hot day by any means, but I think I'll put in on the cellar floor before re-visiting it.

More anon..

Drinking was briefly interrupted by a summer cold, which my metabolism did a splendid job of kicking into touch within 24 hrs.

Better now, but still raw and harsh. I hope this is a poor bottle because I can't give this much of a score; however I do wonder if this might come round given another 26 years..

For immediate gratification, at best, a 2. Should get a bit better so an extra point for another decade.

So score 2-3

- but might come round eventually..

Tom,

I have posted one or two notes here on this wine from the batch that I bought from you last year. If you still have some from that case it would be worth popping one in the not too distant future to confirm whether or not this bottle is a dud. It doesn't sound like what I've been drinking.
