Consumed on 20 May 2009 at The Crusted Pipe in a "bring a bottle to share" and 2007 Horizontal offline.

A commemorative bottle of Ruby Reserve, bottled in 1997 to note the decommissioning of The Royal Yacht Britannia. Nicely packaged in a decorative box with a certificate. Very dark in colour but translucent. A touch spicy but quite a lot of spirt. Entirely drinkable.

A pleasure to taste something such as this with historic connections. As with the crusted, not a style of port I have drunk much of and surpassed my expectations. "Pleasant" I wrote!

I found my note from the tasting, so thought for the sake of completeness that I would post it here:

"Clear centre, pale red in colour. Nose of redcurrant jelly and some all spice with just a hint of the alcohol showing through. Gentle and silky on the tongue; sweet but not overly so and with plenty of complexity. Slightly light bodied. Decent, mature and soft aftertaste of a reasonable length. Very pleasant port. 87/100."
