1985 Fonseca, part of an at-home mini-vertical of ’66, ’70, ’85. Decanted about 9am.

Wife: ‟strongly I get bright red cherries, cherries that are not that ripe”; ‟like a lighter coloured cherry, candy-red”. Also agreed with AMK’s comment.

AMK (she being the sole adult guest): has a ‟peppery bite to it”.

JDAW: note to self must find in large format. Extra note to self must persuade IVDP to allow me to buy in large format. A perfect bottle.

Later: the pepper is strong; the fullness of the rounded fruit is massive; the whole is fantastic and en course for being more so. The best port between 1971 and 1993. (Oooh: there’s a challenge question any dissenters, other than ARK’s claim for the F77?)

Placemats (the wife liked the flowers, though doubted whether they would feature in a placemat used by ‟male port friends”).

F85: opaque purple. Looks like an F85. Big, slow to come to sweetness that then stays and stays. Gigantically long. Needs more cellar time.

The following day, so after ≈36 hours decant, it was softer, blander, and a hint lighter. Nine hours is good.
