2007 Smith Woodhouse vintage port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Delicate nose of violets and blueberries. A lovely texture, soft tannins and lots of fruit showing the same elegant mix of violet and fruit. Low level aftertaste, with some blackcurrant. 83-85. Drunk 28 June 2009.

Component: Vale Coelho Vinha Velha - very grapey / tanky nose. Very soft entry, sweet and smooth. Lots of floral tones in the flavouring. Tannins are restreained and ripe. Hot aftertaste, but fairly short.

Component: Madelena Vinha Velha - floral tones on the nose. Dry entry, tannic grip, plenty of fruit in the palate but also tannins that won't let go. High alcohol content. A tannic grip on the aftertaste that leaves the cheeks tingling.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
