1987 Quinta da Cavadinha

Gentle chocolate on the nose, very dense in flavour - almost Douro baked cherries. Full and sweet in the mouth, plenty of flavours and still showing a hint of tannin. Quite big flavours but also some bake. The flavours do get bigger in the mouth. Big and very filling aftertaste. Long lasting, concentrated and delicious - the best feature of the wine. Unbalanced, but probably a bottle flaw.

Sadly, after having sat in the glass for some time, it became clear that this bottle was very mildly corked. NR. Drunk on 21 July 2009 after 8 hours decanting.

I detected VA on the nose from the outset but, as AHB has said, this was in fact corked.

My note says: VA on the nose. Nice dark red colour. Medium weight. A little spritzy with a very hot finish.

From what others have told me this doesn't seem to have been a representative bottle of WC87.

Not a brilliant bottle, and yes, probably very slightly corked. Need to re-visit this one.

Hi there,

there is nothing from me else to add then I am in the middle of revistiting now. It is a shame that the bt I brought along to the offline was corked (even only mildly) as this is a fantastic wine. In my eyes not as good as the Malvedos 1987 but just all what you want from a Vintage Port from a good year. As soon as there is a chance i will bring another bt to show the difference if required and there is interest.

regards

I'd certainly be interested to find out what a good bottle of this can offer. Yes please!
