1994 Niepoort Vintage Port

Post by Axel P »

Tasted within the Niepoort Range on Nov 27th with Dirk Niepoort:

Compared with the 97.

The Niepoort 94 failed to impress me until now. This bottle showed a very youthful colour and a good structure. The bouquet was dominated by red and blackberries, good complexity. Chocolate and red fruit on the palate. Long and complex aftertaste.

Nose: very fruity with a hint of spice

Taste: very tanninic, very fresh, gets with time more and more soicy notes on the palatte

Aftertaste: extremly long

A very nice port which will develop for a very long time

Axel,

thanks for all the notes on the Niepoort Vintage Ports, which I enjoyed reading.

As to 1994 Niepoort VP it is striking that there are barely assessments from the professionals. Maybe it is owing to some problems Richard Mayson mentioned in his book. This lack of information is the reason why I avoided so far this potentially interesting VP from a top producer and from a top year.
