Tasted within the Niepoort Range on Nov 27th with Dirk Niepoort:

Tasted together with the Pisca.

Dark-red color with violett reflections, though the Pisca was darker.

Bouquet showed some nice spicy notes and a little red-berry-fruit. The palate is already quite integrated with a nice complexity and a complementing acidic note.

Long and complex aftertaste.

In the style of the 2005 with a little more power.

Nose: very spicy, needs time to develop in a real port nose
Taste: a strong and deep port with a lot of fruit
Aftertaste: long

A very nice port which will develop in the future

Tannin management pushed to perfection. Not sure this should be the objective though. OK, it's a good achievement but not in the same league of my faves of 2007 Taylors, Noval, Grahams, Fonseca (in that order). Extremely "modern", a touch drier, velvety texture, hugely opulent with layers of fruit. Ample complexity and good length, but will this have the brute staying power to become truly ageworthy port? Methinks not. I think I prefer that "overextracted" (sic: Dirk van der Niepoort) black magician produced in 1997 - well, the non-VA bottles that is. If you disagree, try one and post your notes.
Cheers, victor
