1966 Almeida Ruby Port

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled 1977. Despite the label on the bottle, describing the contents as a Ruby Port, this appears to be a Buyer's Own Brand colheita port produced for the French market.

Brown and murky in appearance, but the cloudiness did not detract from the flavours. Distinctly colheita on the nose, with that characteristic treacle. Pleasantly sweet in the mouth, with good presence but lacking in acidity to balance the sweetness and muscvado sugar flavours. The aftertaste is a little hot, but has good and sweet length. An unusual port, but pleasantly drinkable. 85/100. Drunk 30 November 2009 on a pop and pour basis.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
