Purchased today for £15 at Sainsbury and opened as a test to see if I want to go back for more at this same, 25% discounted price.

D+1hr
Quite a light colour compared to other 1996s I have had recently. Still dark ruby but not opaque like some others. Fresh red fruits with a little heat on the nose. Thick and viscous. Good acidity and a very sweet entry. Blackcurrant jam and anicede. Lots of dry tannins in the finish, which is quite hot.

Good stuff provided the heat integrates with more time in the decanter.

I think I need more

I read 1966 for some reason and saw you purchased it for £15 I was going to money gram some money over to you and pay for your cab ride.

If this has been 1966 I think you would have found that the shelves of every Sainsbury in the UK would have been raided before I typed this TN

I bought three of these - that was all that was on the shelves. Should I raid again just in case?

Will be giving it another go this evening but even at this poit I would say it is worth having at least a 6 pack of this stashed away for 5 years or so. It is the VP that Sainsbury are using for their "buy Dad a bottle of port in a nice wooden box" this Christmas so there should be plenty of it kicking around.

The spirit has integrated on the nose revealing lovely fresh strawberry. Very little change in the mouth but prehaps not so hot in the finish as last night. Big impressive tannins should hold this together nicely as it matures over the next 5-10 years.

At £15 you just can't go wrong with this.
