2007 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port (tasted in components)

Post by RonnieRoots »

Tasted during a wonderful tasting, hosted and prepared by Gustavo, in the Graham's lodge (26/11/2009)

The 2007 Vesuvio was blended out of only two components. We tasted both, as well as the finished product.

Touriga Franca
It was fun to taste the difference in this Touriga Franca and that used for the Graham's 2007. This had much riper tannins. It was a more complete port. Full, dark fruit (blackberry, dark cherries, blackcurrant) and a fierce tannic structure that seems to be hidden beneath silky layers of lovely flavours. Beautiful.

Touriga Nacional
Almost overripe on the nose, causing the typical Touriga Nacional flowers to be slightly overwhelming. Very pronounced and ripe. The fruit is so sweet that it almost turns chemical (like fruit sweets).

2007 Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port
Super round and silky. Beautiful, explosive fruit. This is both darker and deeper than the Graham, but is exceptionally elegant for Vesuvio standards. I love this, and prefer it over the Graham (although both are extremely good, mind you).
