Decanted 4 hours in advance. Cork soaked through but in perfect, firm condition. Translucent brick-red in colour. Aromas of figs, raisins, ginger, cinnamon and dates. Hallmark sweetish entry. Ripe black figs and plums on the palate, then prunes, nutmeg which are followed onto the expansive fruit-driven palate with additional flavours of caramel and malt. Thereupon traces of black chocolate and captivating mineral flavours, some pepper and spice on the extremely long finale. Very fine harmony paired with elegance rather than power. Great tannin structure. No sign of degradation after 24 hours. Should be another decade before reaching its optimal drinking plateau. Bought almost 20 years ago from two sources; this was in excellent shape. Very stylish drinking.
Cheers, victor
