Tried two bottles recently. The first displayed signs of seepage (apparently a frequently encountered problem in 1977s due to a bottle design flaw) and the content came across disjointed, slightly hot with an almost fruit-bereft tannic shell [n.r.]. The second bottle, from a different source, was another story: truly exciting ”“ here goes:
Decanted 3 hours in advance. Intense ruby coloured. Explosive nose of rich fragrances including sultanas, coffee beans, dates with traces of vanilla. Medium-sweet entry. On the palate grapey, walnuts, ripe black figs, touch of anise and malt. Beautiful harmony, depth and power. For its 32 years, still quite full-bodied / fleshy with layers of concentration. Long spicy finish with lots of complexity. Got smoother and increasingly supple with extended aeration. Tannins mellowed out nicely. No sign of degradation after 24 hours. If well-stored, should age easily for another 10-15 years before drying out. Very elegant drinking.
