Deep colour, intense red but with a transparent centre. Mature and fruity nose; rich, lively and spicy - All Spice over redcurrants. Sweet and intense in the mouth, very fruity and full of rich, mouthfilling flavours. A big aftertaste; a huge orange burst on swallowing, followed by a long and big aftertaste. An absolutely amazing wine, which most people guessed to be 50 years younger than it was. My wine of the night at the 2009 TPF Christmas offline. 95/100. Drunk 17 Dec 2009.

This was just incredible. How many wines in the world would be in such fabulous condition nearly 90 years after harvesting?

Mature brick red, quite translucent. SRG right said ‟proper port colour”. On the tip of the tongue very bitter. Sharp. Alas somewhat thin in the palate, but with strawberry.

I don’t usually associate Fonseca with strawberry.
