1984 Kopke Colheita (bottled 2009)

Bottled 2009. Just for interest, this was tasted alongside Warre Otima 10 year old (opened a few days ago).

The Kopke looked surprisingly young, indeed only slightly browner, and no darker, than the Warre.

The usual nuttiness, dominating heat but good acidity. Didn't show like a 25 year-old wine, but good drinking nonetheless despite all that heat. Perhaps '84 wasn't the strongest of vintages. Preferred the Warre in terms of balance.

24 hours later. Much of the heat has blown off, and it shows better with a lovely tangy acidity and a very long marzipan finish. Alcohol still evident on the nose, but there's a curious hint of blue cheese on the nose, too. Much, much better than last night.

I've read this note with interest. Colheitas are something of an unknown world to me, and 1984 is a vintage I've only tried once as LBV. Thanks for posting it.
