1996 Quinta do Vesuvio

Tasted as part of a Vesuvio Vertical from 1989 to 2008 at
The New Cavendish Club, London on 23rd February 2010.
*Please note that the 2008 Cask Sample was donated to this tasting by the Symington family before the final blend was complete so this may not accurately represent what the Vesuvio 2008 will be, should it be approved and declared later in 2010.

Pretty much the same colour as the '94. Noticably chewy tannins in the mouth, though not quite as much fruit as the '94. Slight coffee in the aftertaste. Lovely Port; certainly the best non-major-year Vesuvio from the 1990s.

I thought this was quite a nice effort -- but the spirit on the nose and the heat on the back-end keep this from being a classic wine in my view.

Soft fruity nose. Thick and sticky in the mouth with some red fruits peaking through the blackcurrant and a good length. I really like this wine, and the 96 vintage as a whole, and am pleased to report that I have a not insignificant stock to enjoy in the years to come

V96: an edge more translucent than the
V95. Lovely. Soft red and black fruit, sweet. Longer than the
V94, though thinner on entry. Redder fruit raspberry.
