2007 Quinta do Vesuvio

Post by DRT »

Tasted as part of a Vesuvio Vertical from 1989 to 2008 at The New Cavendish Club, London on 23rd February 2010.
*Please note that the 2008 Cask Sample was donated to this tasting by the Symington family before the final blend was complete so this may not accurately represent what the Vesuvio 2008 will be, should it be approved and declared later in 2010.

Dark. Massive, huge nose. Extremely sweet on the mouth though, like many other 07s, quite elegant and not particularly tannic.

Wow. Very promising first taste of the 2007 vintage. Soft and approachable, but still rich and challenging. Quite a nice showing for something this young.

I have now tasted the V07 four times and on this occasion I noticed a significant change in that it seems to have mellowed out and lost some of the aggression and rawness that dominated my initial encounters with it. This bottle still showed very good levels of acidity and tannin but was more balanced than the others I have tasted. Very drinkable now - for scientific purposes only, of course

V07: night on the far side of the moon. But so much more approachable than the V05 or V06.
