2008 Quinta do Vesuvio (WiP Cask Sample)
Tasted as part of a Vesuvio Vertical from 1989 to 2008 at The New Cavendish Club, London on 23rd February 2010.
*Please note that the 2008 Cask Sample was donated to this tasting by the Symington family before the final blend was complete so this may not accurately represent what the Vesuvio 2008 will be, should it be approved and declared later in 2010.

Very dark. Sweet. Tannic. Impossible to drink. How the blenders manage to drink this type of Port on a daily basis completely baffles me!

WOW! Again -- a very pleasant showing for such a baby of a port. Sweet, loads of baby fat to chew on (if you're into that sort of thing), and seeming like it will make a great casual drinker in 10-15 years.

This was surprisingly drinkable for such a young port, but that may have been more to do with the fact it was the 19th glass of the night

It was extremely generous of the Symingtons to allow us to taste this sample but I'm afraid my palate was beyond the point of doing it justice by this point in the evening. I look forward to tasting the final blend in the not too distant future.

V08, cask sample: My notes say only ‟the most undrinkable cask sample ever to pass my lips”. This might mean that it will grow up to be a strapping huge blockbuster. Or it might mean that I still don’t know how to think about cask samples.

And why was ‟4 Feb 1960” written, in my hand, to the left of this TN?
