1985 Martinez

Mz85, decanted 1pm, and tasted shortly thereafter. Lovely red colour, no brown, 60% or maybe 70% opaque. Nose is tart, with cranberries and maybe the slightest hint of vanilla. To taste still stringent, a hint of celery texture, heat on tip of tongue, mid-to-light weight, and cranberry fruit. Previous Mz85s have needed 4+ hours in the decanter, and this seems to be on that path. More later.

I hope you recover from this abominable experience safely and quickly.

Mz85 at D+10hr, other things having interrupted my plans. Fine port. Cranberries, red cherries, heat gently and evenly in space and time, medium length or maybe better than that. Lovely port. Not of the highest calibre of greatness, but really thoroughly good if sufficiently well decanted.

Nota bene: Mz85 needs a long decant.

Mz85 at D+32hr: soft, with red cherries and cranberries, but too much oxygen for my taste. It was very soft, so soft as to have lost grip and presence. Recommendation: drink Mz85 at D+8hr to D+12hr.
