Parts of a label showing that this Fonseca 1960 was bottled in [torn]‟utumn 1960” by J. G. Thomson & Co, Ltd, of The Vaults, Leith now the home of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society.

Decanted about 14:30.

F60: Nose of cappuccino, or perhaps latte. To taste initially heat, then sweetness, but simple sweetness. Good length. Too simple for Fonseca.

I found the nose surprisingly tight, which surprised me given that it was a 50 year-old Fonseca. Some vanilla cola, but not much else. Pretty warm and surpringly rich in the mouth. Again, has good structure, but needs fruit like my garden needs rain. Nice -- nothing special. 85+ pts.

Quite deep colour, with a dark centre. Virtually nothing on the nose, perhaps a little subdued redcurrant jelly. Very dry in the mouth but with good levels of fruit. An interesting bitterness from the high levels of acidity - like that found in a grapefruit. Gentle aftertaste, with a big and slightly bitter finish that lasts well. Overall, this was disappointing. 83/100.

My note says: "Dull nose - tannic - fruity - possibly more improvement in a few years?"
