A new thread, smartly added by JDAW while I was posting my first impression of the Niepoort. Thank you.

D+25 minutes. A light red colour, deeper than the Df but not as deep as the Ni. Unpleasant bottle stink on the nose, very elastic band. Lovely texture, very smooth but also quite acidic on the tongue. Not much fruit in the profile, but there is some juniper and lots of acidity. Big burn on swallowing followed by a very sweet and cloying finish. 82/100.

This started out as an improvement over the Delaforce, as being more complex, richer, and more mouth-coating (oh man -- I sound like such an American!). Was never 'delicious,' but did seem better. Sadly, this wine faded a decent amount during the evening, and finished a bit behind Snow White.

Bit of a dog - reasonable colour, but no composure, no structure, no class..

no addition to Chris and Toms quotes. Not a really good Port at all and the fading bit was really annoying!

Racio on the nose. Quite watery in the mouth. Not great.
CHR wrote:Not much of a nose on this one. Strange aluminimum smell. A slightly dry, bitter taste. You can taste the alcohol too much.

Fruity nose, perhaps with a slight hint of VA. Sweet and balanced entry, initially hollw and with limited fruit; there is also a harsh bitterness present. Less well balanced than the Delaforce 1982 shown alongside. Bottle stink tones show on the palate. Hot aftertaste, followed by a bitter start and a bland finish. Not pleasant port. 80/100. Drunk after 1½ hours decanting.
