Nearly the star of the show and would be a worthy champion in most line-ups. Third time of tasting for me and this stuff never disappoints. Very dark, lots of cherries and blackcurrants. "Supreme" it says here.

Surprise Port of the night: Extremely - almost unbelieveably - dark color with very little hints of this age. Extremely concentrated, spicy and floral in the nose. The palate was even more concentrated: lots and lots of fruit, spices, some acidity and alcohol, coffee and malty aromas. Very, very good and fully surprsing that this port showed that well.

Not a surprise for those of us that have had it before and the Rootses have more.

Should I be on the hunt for other 76's too?

Third flight, served alongside the Fonseca 1977.

Again and again this port is a winner. This bottle didn't disappoint. Extremely dark colour, very concentrated. Masses of lovely dark fruit on the nose, accompanied by great freshness (mint) and some coffee. The palate is all about concentration and balance, power and complexity. Very complete. The dark fruit is extremely nicely layered, and very well balanced by good acidity of redcurrant and mint. Delicate liquorice on the long finish. Fine grained tannins. This completely overwhelmed the 1977 (although, admittedly, that wasn't a good bottle), and competed for star of the evening. 95 points now, and it will still get better with time.
