2000 Sandeman LBV

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Sandeman 2000 LBV, bottled lightly filtered, sold by the glass for £6.75 at the Don restaurant. Intensely coloured, opaque. Nose is surprisingly closed for an LBV, showing only faint brambles. In the mouth this is light bodied but has an elegant balance between the sweet bramble fruit, modest acidity and soft tannins. There is not much complexity but the wine is very pleasant. The aftertaste is soft, and leads to a long finish of bramble pips and milk chocolate. A very pleasant and generously sized pour. Enjoyable and recommended. 85/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
