1983 Smith Woodhouse

Post by benread »

A single bottle. Just decanted. Real dark red colour still in decanter. Bottle label in very poor condition but there was a double layer foil cap and the cork was in superb condition. The port had a fine sediment, not the heavy flakes often found. Am very optimistic about this for later! Smells of cherries & forest fruits.

It lives up to expectations! Beautifully integrated - tannins, fruit, body, length. All in moderation. Were I to venture an UTS (Uncle Tom Score) it would be something like 8 or 9 ( The vesuvio 1994 is the only specific port I immediately recall drinking this year and being more impressed with) - 7 or 8 (I think this will remain superb for a considerable time yet.)

Mmmm! :D
