1987 Quinta de Baldias LBV (unfiltered)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled unfiltered in 1993. Drunk at Prastos e Costas in Regua. Brick red in colour, clearly mature, only 50% opaque. Full of rich Douro bake on the nose, lots of raisins and toffee apple. Rich in the mouth, dried dates and sweet golden sultanas. Deep texture and a great mouthfeel, terrific balance other than a slight touch of heat showing through. Gentle and sweet aftertaste of candied cherry and dried dates. Long and lingering finish. This is a lovely wine, at an elegant and well balanced phase of its life. Delightful drinking today. 85/100. Drunk 24 September 2010.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Bl87LBV: becoming translucent and tawny. Nosing of raisins and mint. Very raisiny to taste. Light, but very long. Later nose lost raisin but gained sugar.
