From the LBV Old and New - part 2 tasting:
Second in the Wine of the Night stakes and only just, a 5-3 split decided it, so no abstainers from the real result. even more medicinal than the 1995 and more syrupy in the mouth. Apart from that, pure class for a 90s LBV. Still too young but immensly enjoyable and fully worthy of no.2 spot over the cheap option.

Black. Nice thick texture with lots of blackberry. Tannins are quite sharp and grippy. Far too young to drink. Leave for 10 years or more.

My 2nd WOTN.

Traditional LBV, bottled 2003. Deep red in colour; closed on the nose, showing very little other than some volatile alcohol. Lovely depth on entry; rich licorice and deep, sweet brambles. Soft but persistent tannins grip the teeth and cheeks. Really lovely development on the palate. Slight heat from the acidity on the aftertaste, followed by a long and grippy finish. Very tasty, and with lots of improvement ahead of it if patiently left in the cellar for another 5-10 years. 90/100.
