Vintage Porto is a selection of the very finest Porto wines of an exceptional year. All Vintage Porto throws a deposit or “crust† as it has been aged in bottle since it was two years old, and its exceptional flavour and bouquet is a characteristic of its development in the bottle.

Slightly damp under the foil; the cork wet and loose. Having only a waiter’s corkscrew it broke into a few pieces. At 12:30 on Wednesday 15 August 2007 decanted through an unbleached coffee filter, just before a load of rushing around ahead of the arrival of some friends of the in-laws. One of these friends a “recovering alcoholic†, so no D+0 tasting.
D+6 hours: red-pink, and, consistent with the Warre 1960 and Warre 1963, the colour of only moderate saturation: my handwritten note says “mediumly thin colour† (meaning “medium-thin colour†). Slow tears. No heat on nose, though some to mouth. Smelt of port-like damsons (can one just say “nosed of port†?). Good length in mouth though not throat. Almost cherry; certainly red fruits.
Later the same evening, after the champagne tasting: considerable alcohol on the tongue. Seemingly fuller and richer in the mouth and throat. RSH (different friend of wife’s) finding figs. There is though a thinness that mars an otherwise very good port.
Lovely three-decade port: UncleTomScore = 7-7.
