decanted for 2-3 hours prior to tasting.

Smells of raw black peppers backed with some licorice and blue berries.

The palate hits of some sweet cherries but heavy amounts of tar and tannins. It's got a good mouthfeel but ends with a fresh paved asphalt like finish.

A solid young primal port.

92 pts.

After going through the line up, I felt this has the potential to taste like the 1983 dows which I felt has a similar taste profile.

Smells of raw black peppers backed with some licorice, blue berries and some allspice pokes through.

Sweet spicy cherries but still with noticeable amounts of tar and tannins. Blueberries show up but the tannins just holds onto your tongue.

It's got a good mouthfeel but still ends with a fresh paved asphalt like finish.

It's definitely getting better.

94.

Lamont:

2007 (1+hrs)
Dark purple - close in color to the '03 but not quite as dark. The nose has a heavy baked/jammy fruit quality, raspberry and strawberry, but there's something odd in there too. It reminds me of the "carpet" note that I found on the '85 and also a little tomato paste - maybe some VA? The palate gives dark fruit similar to the nose but feels tightly wound and I had a hard time trying to evaluate this one. The fact that this was decanted at the time of the tasting may also have had a lot to do with it. I don't think a rating would mean much here so I'll refrain. N/R
