Tasted at The Big Fortified Tasting, a trade fair in London at Glaziers Hall on Wed 06 April 2011 (Review thread, containing links to other tasting notes). This being a large trade-fair event, tasting notes generally brief.

Br00. Dark red, 80% opacity. Very interesting flavours: coffee; some wood; mint; and something that I can only describe as ‘marshmallow’, knowing that this description is a near miss. At £39 too dear (Kevin O’Rourke Wines).

Barros 2000 VP
In colour, somewhat lighter than I would expect for its age. In the mouth it, entirely unexpectedly, tastes of Pepsi (!), although this is quite appealing, with a few soft tannins surrounding it. Quaffable now and probably for the near-future but I cannot see this having a long future.

95% opaque centre, just starting to change colour on the rim. Lovely and open on the nose, softly fruity. Silky texture on the palate with lovely fruit and a good balance which has been missing from other Barros wines on show today. The flavours and complexity grows really well with violets all over the palate. A lingering aftertaste and finish which is full of slightly spicy red licorice. 90/100.
