1999 Cockburn Canais

Tasted at The Big Fortified Tasting, a trade fair in London at Glaziers Hall on Wed 06 April 2011 (Review thread, containing links to other tasting notes). This being a large trade-fair event, tasting notes generally brief.

Cockburn 1999 SQVP
Quinta dos Canais. Good colour, though starting to lighten on the rim. On the nose a bit too much rancio for my liking and somewhat too much heat. Not great.

Mild red colour, 100% opaque. Strange, petrolly nose; perhaps VA tones mixed in with the fruit? Light bodied and tasting of lightly baked fruit. The tannins melt away quickly to leave a baked cherry flavour. Enjoyable but light. Light fruit finish of good length. The first impression is of a light port. 84/100.
