Re: 2009 Niepoort cask sample

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Cask sample. Lovely sweet blackcurrant on the nose. Dry in the mouth, tannic but with restrained sweet fruit - modest at first but which grows well to great levels. Gentle acidity, good tannins and masses of fruit on the palate. The tannins are beautifully ripe. Dry aftertaste, slightly hot then followed by a very, very long blueberry and pine resin finish with dry cheeks and teeth. Splendid port; a medium term keeper. 90-92 / 100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
