1988 Madalena

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

By Smith Woodhouse.

Mid-red, holding in to the rim with a slight rose tinge right on the edge of the rim; 90% opaque. Peach and vanilla on the nose - and Rainier cherries! Light bodied texture, flavoursome with candied red jelly beans dominating the palate, supported by gentle tannins and soft acidity. Lively aftertaste, raspberries and a dry brioche finish. Thoroughly enjoyable port. 88/100. Drunk 2 April 2011 after 4 hours decant.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
